Covid-19 Interventions: Nia at Home

Covid-19 has had devastating impacts on the health, safety, and wellbeing of youth all over the world. During school closures throughout 2020 and 2021 millions of girls faced challenges that have only been amplified by the pandemic including heightened risk for sexual and gender-based violence, pregnancy, anxiety, depression, and ongoing trauma.

In response, leveraging our expertise in social and behavior change communications we created new educational content using our proven methodology to support adolescent girls at this time of crisis.

Our new social and behavior change communications series called Nia at Home is a set of educational comics designed to improve the health and resilience of girls throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Through this series, ZanaAfrica offers a friend and trusted resource that girls and boys can turn to for guidance. With Nia at Home, we:

  • Debunk myths about Covid-19 contraction to prevent the community spread of this deadly virus

  • Support girls’ mental health, wellness, and resilience through engaging self-care exercises

  • Expand access to reproductive health education and support services, contraception, clinical referrals, and primary and secondary school resources, through hotlines that individuals  can text or call for support.

Delivered with or without sanitary pads, Nia at Home ensures that adolescents are holistically supported with the resources they need to thrive, under the most challenging of circumstances.

All issues of Nia at Home are open source for anyone who needs it.
